Ralf Futselaar: research projects

Blood. Mass Violence and Racial Identity

This is a book project resulting from a workshop titled Blood. Mass Violence and Racial Identity in the Twentieth Century, held in March 2010 at the Netherlands Institute for War Documentation (NIOD) in Amsterdam, as part of the Kwansei Gakuin University/NIOD collaboration. The papers in the book will discuss the construction of racial identities during periods of mass violence, and the continuing relevance of those identities to racism in the later 20th, and early 21st century.

Our book will include chapters on the Korean minority in Japan, the Chinese Diaspora in Southeast Asia, registration of ethnicity in the Netherlands, as well as many other exciting topics.
